Summary
Ren Amamiya was an ordinary high-school student. That is, until one evening, when he was unfairly convicted of assault while trying to stop a drunkard from taking advantage of a woman. Sent off to live with a family friend while attending Shujin Academy, he stumbles across the Metaverse after the Metaverse Navigator app suddenly appears on his phone, becoming a Persona-user to defend himself from the Shadows inside the twisted Palaces inside other people's hearts.
Now as Joker, the de-facto leader of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, Ren seeks to change the crooked society of the world he lives in, one heart at a time.

Name: Ren Amamiya (Anime and most other media), Akira Kurusu (Manga); "Joker" (as codename)
Origin: Persona
Gender: Male
Age: 16-17 (Persona 5: The Royal) | 18 (Persona 5: Strikers)
Classification: Human, Persona-user, Trickster, Wild Card, Phantom Thief, Fool Arcana, World Arcana
Powers and Abilities:
Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Martial Arts, Weapon Mastery (Knives and Grappling Hooks), Stealth Mastery, Acrobatics, Regeneration (Mid-Low, speed depends on willpower), Summoning (Ren is capable of summoning items from his inventory for use in battle, as shown on multiple occasions where large items and equipment are pulled out of nowhere and used despite being missing in both gameplay and cutscenes), Supernatural Willpower, Empowerment, Accelerated Development and Reactive Evolution (Battle, Leveling, and Training; Physical Stats, Magic, and Improved Resistances. (Humans are able to get more powerful after defeating strong demons or even as they are in the middle of battle, even against opponents ontologically superior to them, and are able to grow massively in strength in the span of merely a day's time or less, either through resolve, the threat of death, or training, or the bonds they hold dear), Superhuman Charisma (As shown through Shadow Negotiation, Ren is charismatic enough to break the mind control that a Palace Ruler passively possesses over the Shadows in their Palace), Sealing and Power Absorption (After persuading a Shadow to become apart of him, Joker seals his once-foes and they become a new mask), Information Analysis and Extrasensory Perception (with Third Eye, which allows Ren to single-out anything relevant to his current objectives, spot details invisible to the naked eye, as well as sense the strength of an opponent relative to himself), Perception Manipulation (Third Eye can slow down Ren's perception of time), Cognition (Type 1) and Passive Fate Manipulation (Ren is the Trickster, a being capable of defying and changing fate in the Megami Tensei multiverse, that binds even the gods which inherently exist under an irregular system of causality. The smallest intervention on Ren's part is capable of dramatically changing predetermined fates. This is further observed by Chihaya Mifune, who can perceive fates through Tarot readings with complete accuracy, to the point of receiving accurate visions of the future, such as Ren's death in the police interrogation room. Ren was capable of defying his predetermined fate of losing to Yaldabaoth, who had hijacked his journey as a Wild Card and rigged everything against his success. Furthermore, an effectively-deified Takuto Maruki has stated that even if he were to retry his final battle with the Phantom Thieves, it would be impossible for him to win), Non-Physical Interaction, Durability Negation, Healing Nullification, Immortality Negation (Type 2, 3, and 7), and Invulnerability Negation (Capable of interacting with Demons, which are invisible beings comprised of data and information, the fulcrum of the entire verse proper, a concept synonymous to souls, minds, and even concepts. Even entities devoid of time and space, and nonexistent bodies such as The White can be struck down. Can completely negate their invulnerability to conventional weaponry, and the requirement of needing to be on a specific informational frequency to harm, as well as Septentriones, which require spiritual attacks to harm, and as well as killing undead beings and regenerative entities, such as Nagas and Blobs).
Cognitive Physiology, Magic, consisting of: Fire, Water Manipulation, Ice Manipulation, Lightning, Earth Manipulation, Wind, Radiation, Explosion, Psychokinetic, Energy, Holy, Light, Curse, Darkness, Petrification with Petra, Gravity Manipulation and Death Manipulation. Resistance Negation and Existence Erasure (Can use Almighty Attacks, which bypass all barriers and reflectors, invulnerability, and resistances. Can even negate an opponents resistance to resistance negation with Pierce. Almighty attacks are able to hurt someone wielding the Omnipotent Orb, which bends the rules of reality to defend the user from attacks, and Reason Bearers, who are able to enforce rules into reality to protect themselves from attacks. The Megi- line of spells is capable of obliterating opponents with a light that erases them "beyond death"), Absorption (Can drain vitality and spiritual energy with Deathtouch, Spirit Drain, Life Drain, Energy Drain, and passive Absorb skills), BFR (With Omni-Dimension, sends an enemy to another realm which can kill them upon entering it), Healing, Purification and Resurrection (with various support spells), Statistics Amplification and Statistics Reduction (with Physical skills and various support spells), Damage Boost (with critical hits), Damage Reduction (with Guard), Status Effect Inducement, which includes, Empathic Manipulation (Dizziness/Nausea, Confusion, Despair and Rage), Fear Manipulation (with Evil Touch and Evil Smile), Memory Manipulation (with Makajama and Makajamaon), Sleep Manipulation (with Dormina and Lullaby), Mind Control (with Marin Karin and Brain Jack), and Petrification (with Petra).
Through equipping certain items, Ren can possess any of the following: Enhanced Regeneration, Statistics Amplification, Attack Reflection, Forcefield Creation, Attack Absorption, Limited Precognition, Healing, Purification, Fire Manipulation, Electricity Manipulation, Air Manipulation, Radiation Manipulation, Explosion Manipulation, Light Manipulation, Holy Manipulation, Darkness Manipulation and Curse Manipulation. Invulnerability to Memory Manipulation and Sleep Manipulation.
Resistance to Fate Manipulation and Causality Manipulation (as the Trickster, Ren is unaffected by the predetermined fates that exist within the Megaten, which binds even Type 4 Acausals), Time Manipulation (is able to move in stopped time), Cognition (the Phantom Thieves' wills of rebellion serve as protection against the effects of Cognition). Depending on the equipped Persona, Resistance, Invulnerability, Reflection and/or Absorption of: Fire, Ice, Lightning, Wind, Radiation, Explosion, Psychokinetic, Energy, Holy, Light, Curse, Darkness, Death Manipulation, BFR, Probability Manipulation, Existence Erasure, Information Manipulation, Mind Manipulation, Soul Manipulation, Fusionism and Memory Manipulation (Simply having the potential to awaken a Persona grants one a will firm enough to maintain their own existence and individuality in the unconscious world, where the concept of the ego does not exist and all individuality dissolves into oneness, with ordinary people being immediately overwhelmed by the nothingness and scattered throughout all possible worlds by stepping into it), Curse Manipulation (Like the other protagonists, he is likely able to fight and defeat White Rider, the abstract embodiment of victory and conquest whose crown assures his success in all battles and wars. Unbothered by interactions with Pisacas, which fate humans to die in the span of nine months), Disease Manipulation, Probability Manipulation, Madness Manipulation and Chaos Manipulation (Unaffected by the act of looking into Girimehkala's eye, which inflicts incurable sickness and misfortune into individuals, and by the gaze of Yakkha, which is said to inflict disease and madness), Petrification and Poison Manipulation (Can easily do battle against Basilisk and Cockatrice, both of whom turn normal people into stone simply by being touched or looked at, and have a gaze and breath so poisonous that any mortal being near them instantly dies, turning their surroundings into a desert), Life and Death Manipulation (Can fight Liches, whose presence drains the life of those who see them, and is not affected by Balor's gaze, which instantly kills enemies, and Chatterskull's laughter, which dooms whoever hears it to death, immediately stopping their heart).
All previous abilities to a greater extent. Enhanced Superhuman Charisma (by the late-game, his sheer charisma is directly compared to outright mind control), Enhanced Stealth Mastery (with Stealth Dash), Resistance Negation (with Oda Special, which grants Joker's gun the ability to ignore enemy affinities), Light Manipulation (with Kakoi Kuzushi, which creates a blinding light to stun opponents with a snap of a finger), Information Analysis (with Sleuthing Mastery, which reveals a single enemy's elemental affinities at the start of battle), Statistics Amplification (with Flow, which increases the power of all of Ren's attacks by 250% for as long as he is in the flow state), Purification (with Detox) and Mental Restoration (with Wakefulness, which greatly restores Ren's mental stamina should he be low on it), Absolute Zero (With Bufudyne and Absolute Zero), and Beyond-Dimensional Existence (Can summon Personas like Paravati, who retains the innate abilities of her Archetype self.)
All previous abilities to a greater extent. Weapon Creation (with skills like Sword Dance and God's Hand), Summoning (can summon meteors with Agneyastra), Earth Manipulation (can create powerful earthquakes with Gigantomachia), Spatial Manipulation and Durability Negation (with Vorpal Blade), Limited Invulnerability (with Endure skills and/or sufficient willpower), Enhanced Regeneration (with Regenerate, Invigorate and Fast/Instant-Heal skills), Damage Boost (with Boost and Amp skills), Limited Probability Manipulation (with Critical-chance buffs, such as Rebel's Vanguard), Damage Reduction (with Elemental Walls and certain Persona Traits), additional Danmaku (with skills like Riot Gun), Forcefield Creation and Attack Reflection (with Tetrakarn and Makarakarn), Forcefield Negation (with Tetra and Makara Break) and Buff and Debuff Negation (Can use spells such as Sukunda and Debilitate and can remove effects of similar abilities with Dekunda and Dekaja, reduce the level of a male target permanently with Devil's Kiss (Male), and can prevent passive abilities from activating with Null Auto), Damage Transferal (with Hex ailment, which transfers half of the damage dealt by an attacker back onto themselves), Power Nullification (with Bind skills), Poison Manipulation (with Poison ailment) and Clairvoyance (with Navigation skills).
All previous abilities to a greater extent. Absolute Zero.
All previous abilities to a greater extent. Regeneration (Mid-Low normally, and High-Godly if killed or erased, as he can return from conceptual erasure from all of history, simply reappearing in the Velvet Room which exists outside of reality, before being able to reclaim his existence simply by leaving the room) and Passive Power Bestowal (through his Confidant links, which grant those he's fully bonded with the ability to resist the effects of Cognition, as shown with his normal Confidants, as well as inherit his level of Regeneration, as shown with the other Phantom Thieves).
All previous abilities to a greater extent. Large Size (Type 2, with Satanael), Black Hole Creation (with Black Hole) and Temporary Invulnerability (with Infinity).
All previous abilities to a greater extent. Additional Status Effects, including Mind Control and Life Manipulation
All previous abilities to a greater extent. Invulnerability to Energy Manipulation and Resistance Negation (with Satanael)
All previous abilities to a greater extent
All previous abilities to a greater extent, except Satanael
All previous abilities to a greater extent. Limited Invulnerability (with Endure), Durability Negation (with Vorpal Blade) and Earth Manipulation (with Gigantomachia)
All previous abilities to a greater extent, except Satanael. Greatly improved Resistance to Cognition (Lavenza specially notes after the battle with Berserk Cendrillon that the Phantom Thieves' wills of rebellion have reached new heights)
Attack Potency: Country level (Can damage and defeat Archangel, who is superior to Elemental Spirits such as Aeros and Earthys, who are the respective personifications of all of the world's winds and earth, being the cause of all phenomena related to their element as dictated by human understanding, and thus should both be capable of reproducing effects of this scale) higher with Willpower | Universe level+ (Assisted in the defeat of Asmodeus, who is able to create and sustain his Palace, an entire parallel universe), higher with Willpower | Low Complex Multiverse level (Able to fight and defeat Thor, who is vastly superior to the combined forces of the Four Heavenly Kings, which are capable of sustaining a barrier separating the Human World from the Expanse. The latter being a plane that transcends the past, present and future across the multiverse, by himself), higher with Willpower | Outerverse level (Both assisted and fought alone against Masayoshi Shido, who should be superior to Parvati, a Shadow within his Palace, who is an entity that holds the aspect of Kali Ma within herself, who is stronger than the likes of Anat), higher with Willpower | Outerverse level (Assisted in the defeat of the Holy Grail, the Administrator of the Collective Unconscious and who began the gradual fusion of Assiah and Kadath, and is superior to the likes of Enlil, who in turn is above Masakado), higher with Willpower | Outerverse level (Assisted in the defeat of Yaldabaoth, the transformed state of the Holy Grail, and was ultimately the one to defeat him), higher with Willpower, far higher with Satanael | Outerverse level (Assisted in the defeat of Azathoth and Maruki, the former being stated to be on a whole other level than Yaldabaoth and is the master of the Faceless God), higher with Willpower | Outerverse level (Can meagerly damage and withstand blows from a full-power Adam Kadmon, the First Man, and the First World that transcends the entire Tree of Life, and is the closest emanation of the Great Reason), higher with Willpower
Speed: Speed of Light Reactions and Combat Speed (Can react to Plasma, a Shadow who uses EM waves to attack), FTL Reactions and Combat Speed with Willpower | Speed of Light Reactions and Combat Speed, FTL Reactions and Combat Speed with Willpower | Immeasurable Reactions and Combat Speed (Is superior to the likes of Thor, who is a resident of The Expanse, a higher-dimensional plane that transcends past, present, and future), higher with Willpower | Irrelevant (Kept pace with Shido), higher with Willpower | Irrelevant Reactions and Combat Speed (Kept pace with the Holy Grail), higher with Willpower | Irrelevant Reactions and Combat Speed (Kept pace with Yaldabaoth), higher with Willpower, far higher with Satanael (Blitzed Yaldabaoth with Sinful Shell) | Irrelevant Reactions and Combat Speed (Kept pace with Azathoth), higher with Willpower | Irrelevant Reactions and Combat Speed (Should capable of reacting to Adam Kadmon as the other Thieves did to a greater extent), higher with Willpower
Lifting Strength: Unknown (Lacks lifting strength feats) | Universal (His Persona Mada is strong enough to physically swallow the universe, and those comparable to it should possess similar levels of strength), higher with Willpower | Immeasurable (His Persona Kohryu states that through his power, Ren possesses the might to move all of creation, and those comparable or above it should possess similar levels of strength), higher with Willpower | Immeasurable (Can hold his ground against attacks from Yaldabaoth), higher with Willpower, far higher with Satanael (Stronger than before) | Immeasurable (Stronger than before), higher with Willpower | Immeasurable (Stronger than before, and should be above the other Phantom Thieves sans Akechi, who collectively held back the sustained force of Fused Adam Kadmon's all-out punch), higher with Willpower

Stamina: Very High. Can fight for hours on-end despite the constant use of physical and magic skills, which significantly drain physical and mental stamina respectively with every use. Effectively Infinite with Wakefulness, which automatically restores a significant amount of mental stamina whenever Ren gets low, and Healing, which uses mental strength to restore physical injuries and stamina.
Range: Standard Melee Range with melee attacks | Up to Low Complex Multiversal with spells | Same as before. Up to Outerversal with spells.
Standard Equipment: |
---|
Phantom Thief Outfit, Knives, Pistols, Grappling Hook, various equipment, as well as various battle and consumable items. Some items are only accessible past certain points in the game, and as such, the more notable items are listed below.
|
Intelligence: Genius (As the leader of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, Joker is an exceptionally talented teenager, quickly mastering stealth, infiltration, martial arts, strategy and tactics, craftsmanship, the handling of firearms, speech, and of course, thievery. For a year, he led the Phantom Thieves to track down well-hidden criminals and trace them back to their source, matching wits with geniuses such as Goro Akechi and Sae Niijima, and eventually dismantling a supernatural conspiracy taking place throughout Japan, all while maintaining "an honest student life")
Weaknesses: Ren's physical and spiritual vitality is drained by using physical and magical skills respectively.
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
Persona Summoning: The ability to summon and utilize Personas. Personas can move and attack independently of their users, allowing for concurrent attacks to be performed. They are summoned and directed through thought and instinct, and most attacks manifest just as quickly and are controlled through the same means; and it should be noted that Personas do not need to be summoned in order to use their skills. Each Persona has a unique set of statistics and elemental affinities, which also apply to their user while the Persona is equipped. The Personas that Ren has access to are listed here.
Persona Traits: As shown in P5R, all Personas possess inherent traits that assist in combat or support. The complete list of traits available are listed here.
Persona Skills: Personas are all able to use certain skills and spells related to the stories/mythologies of the figure they are based on. Persona-users and their Personas can use skills and spells independently of each other. These skills range from amplified physical attacks, highly-malleable elemental attacks, status buffs and debuffs, ailment infliction, passive defenses and more, can manifest instantly and with a thought, as well as affect the mind, soul, information and concept of the target. The complete list of skills that Ren has access to are here. The skills listed below are particularly notable.
- Armor Breaker/Armor Destroyer: Physical attacks that lower defenses on contact.
- Kidney Smash/Weapon Crusher: Physical attacks that lower attack power on contact.
- Arm Chopper/Arm Crusher: Physical attacks that inflict Strength Bind.
- Holy Touch/Saint's Touch: Physical attacks that inflict Magic Bind.
- Leg Reaper/Achilles Reaper: Physical attacks that inflict Agility Bind.
- Dream Needle/Dormin Rush: Physical attacks that inflict Sleep.
- Calm Blade: Physical attacks that inflict Hex.
- Terror Claw/Bloodbath/Death Scythe: Physical attacks that inflict Fear.
- Headbutt/Memory Blow: Physical attacks that inflict Forget.
- Hysterical Slap/Oni Kagura: Physical attacks that inflict Rage.
- Brain Shake/Brain Buster: Physical attacks that inflict Brainwash.
- Sledgehammer/Flash Bomb: Physical attacks that inflict Dizzy.
- Skull Cracker: Physical attacks that inflict Confusion.
- Negative Pile/Bad Beat: Physical attacks that inflict Despair.
- Lucky/Miracle Punch/One-Shot Kill: Physical attacks that have a high critical rate.
- Hassou Tobi: A physical attack that multiplies speed by 8x to perform.
- Hamaon/Mudoon/Samsara/Die For Me: Death spells.
- Divine Judgement/Demonic Decree: Life-halving spells.
- Pralaya: A powerful Almighty attack that inflicts Death.
- Stagnant Air: Changes the air in the environment to make targets more susceptible to ailments.
- Ghastly Wail: An Almighty-based Death spell that instantly kills all enemies afflicted with Fear.
Cognition: According to Morgana, the entire world is a product of Cognition; that is, what is real is only determined by humanity's perception. It is effectively a form of collective Subjective Reality possessed by humanity. Within the Metaverse, this effect is taken to its extremes, resulting in things such as fake guns becoming real just by someone believing that it is, and said guns being always loaded due to the enemy's logical assumption that a gun being held with hostile intent would naturally be so. More subtle displays of Cognition are also shown, such as when Ryuji Sakamoto managed to harm Shadows prior to awakening to his Persona, despite Shadows being invulnerable to all forms of standard physical interaction, simply because he believed that those Shadows were normal people playing a cruel prank.
Will of Rebellion: The Phantom Thieves' outfits take the form of one's image of rebellion, and reflect the strength of their will to rebel against others' desire to control them. This will of rebellion manifests as the aforementioned outfits, which protect the Phantom Thieves from the effects of Cognitive Distortions. Naturally, the stronger the will, the greater the extent of their resistance to the effects of Cognition.
